Week 6
(October 5- October 11)
Estimated Color 60%
After
2 days of hard killing frost we had 3 days of 65 degree weather. I am not
sure if this combination made the difference but on Thursday the trees just
exploded in color.
The
rapid changes in temperature left us with misty mornings. Wallaby loves
to stand guard from the picnic table just east of the inn. Here he can protect
us from all 4 legged intruders - either real or imaginary. He loves people
but he takes an instant dislike of any squirrel that he meets.
The
grapes are in! Nancy Adams called and said she had more grapes than she
knew what to do with. The wet summer has led to a bumper crop.
The Adams farm generated about 10 flats of concord in their small vinyard
and after juicing most of them they offered us the last 2. Kathe will be
making jam next week. That should provide jam for the breakfast table for
most of the next year.
The
Finger Lakes Railway runs along the back edge of our property. In the past
week they have been making several trips a day of passenger runs.

The
reference shot for this week bears repeating. More and more trees have turned
and the colors are absolutely beautiful!
